This is not a thorough list of games releasing this year but just my opinion on the really big games(and interesting) that will be out this year.

Grand Theft Auto 4
XBOX360, PS3

Genre : Action open world

GTA IV is structured similarly to previous games in the series. The core gameplay consists of elements of a third-person shooter and a driving game, affording the player a large, open environment in which to move around. On foot, the player's character is capable of walking, running, swimming, climbing and jumping, as well as utilising weapons and basic hand to hand combat. Players can steal and drive a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, boats, helicopters, and motorcycles.

The open, non-linear environment allows players to explore and choose how they wish to play the game. Although storyline missions are necessary to progress through the game and unlock certain parts of the map and content, they are not required, as players can complete them at their own leisure. When not taking on a storyline mission, players can free-roam. However, creating havoc can attract unwanted and potentially fatal attention from the authorities. The more chaos caused, the stronger the response: police will handle "minor" infractions (attacking people, pointing guns at people, stealing cars, killing a few people, etc.), whereas SWAT teams, the FBI, and the military respond to higher wanted levels.

Spore
PC

Genre : Genre(god game)

At first glance, Spore is a teleological evolution game, or a god game. The player molds and guides a species across many generations, growing it from a single-celled organism into a more complex animal. Eventually, the species becomes sapient. The player then begins molding and guiding this species' society, developing it into a space-faring civilization, at which point they can explore the galaxy in a space ship. Spore's main innovation is the use of procedural generation for many of the components of the game, providing vast scope and open-endedness.

It will consist of several long phases, each with its own style of play, with a range of gameplay styles, including elements of strategy and life simulation. Wright also mentioned that he wanted players to be able to spend as much time as they prefer in each stage, without being forced to move to the following stage. In a February 12, 2008 Newsweek interview with N'Gai Croal, Wright mentioned that they added a difficulty selector to each stage, allowing players to choose the difficulty for each part of the game.

Empire Total War

Genre : Strategy

Empire: Total War is about exploration and conquest, founding colonies and fighting wars away from home, and is a strategy game spanning the 18th and early 19th centuries, in which you direct your nation to dominate Europe, North Africa, the Americas, the Indies, South East Asia and the Indian subcontinent. The player will use both complex strategies on the campaign map and fierce commands on the battlefield�both on land and sea. The game will feature gameplay correlating with that of the previous games in the Total War series, but with major additions to the campaign map and battlefield.

Mercenaries 2 : World in Flames

Features new to Mercenaries 2 include destructible environments, co-operative mode[3], a fire effects engine that allows the player to ignite things such as oil or foliage, improved artificial intelligence for non-player characters and the ability to swim. The game is powered by the Havok 4.5 physics engine.

New vehicles have been added, an example of this is boats.[4] Hijacking now consists of a small minigame, ranking in difficulty relative to the vehicle being hijacked. Another feature is the ability to switch from driver to gunner on demand. One other new addition to this iteration of Mercenaries is the ability to build a Private Military Company and recruit mercenaries into it. There are two confirmed mercenaries that can be recruited: Eva Navarro who will act as a mechanic once recruited and Ewan who is a helicopter pilot who can pick up valuable objects you may encounter, and can also extract you if necessary. Also, a new unnamed (Russian) bomber pilot will be able to be hired, who is your source for airstrikes.

The game will feature terrain ranging from urban environments such as Caracas, to the Amazon rainforest. It will also include the cities and regions of Maracaibo, Cuman�, M�rida, Ciudad Guayana, Guanare, the Orinoco River, Lake Maracaibo, the Northern Andes, Isla de Margarita, and more.

FarCry 2
XBOX360, PS3, PC

Genre : First Person Shooter

The game will be entirely open-ended and non-linear. Instead of using individual maps, the game will take place in a sprawling nondescript land in Africa, with terrain ranging from savanna to jungle[1], similar to those seen in Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, Just Cause and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. The gameplay area will be around 50 square km. Some members of the Ubisoft Montreal team spent 2 weeks in several locations in Africa filming and photographing native wildlife. The team will use the animal footage and environment photos to create an extremely realistic environment.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

In Metal Gear Solid 4, the player (Old Snake) must navigate the game world in order to progress, using stealth and cunning in addition to traditional combat. It will use the series' traditional third person view with full camera manipulation, but also allows the freedom to play in first-person mode, as well as an over the shoulder view which can be switched from right shoulder to left for easy corner maneuvering. The Close Quarters Combat system will be completely revamped. The player will also be able to interrogate guards for information and supplies.

Several elements from previous titles return in modified forms. Players will also use a new form of camouflage called "Octocamo", which replaces the camouflage system featured in Metal Gear Solid 3. Dark blue when disabled, the Octocamo suit allows the wearer to blend in with any surface within a few seconds. A new monocular device called "Solid Eye" replaces the various binoculars and image intensifiers from previous titles, and a steel drum complements the series' traditional cardboard box disguise. It is able to deflect bullets, and can be rolled to knock enemy soldiers over.

Resident Evil 5
PS3, XBOX 360

Genre : Shooter, survival horror

Jun Takeuchi, the game's producer, stated the Resident Evil 5 will feature similar gameplay to Resident Evil 4; The player will control Chris Redfield similarly to how the player controlled Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 4. The game's environment will also play a significant role. For example, if Redfield suffers prolonged exposure to heat, he will begin to see mirages and hallucinations. Also, the game implements various lighting effects. If Redfield moves between bright and dark areas his eyes will have to adjust, causing the player to briefly lose some visual of their surroundings.

The game will also feature new types of enemies. The extended E3 trailer revealed several sequences involving Redfield attacking hordes of fleet-footed enemies, who possessed melee weapons. Takeuchi has also stated the game's enemies will also possess human-like intelligence and awareness. Furthermore, he stated they will be different from the previous zombies and ganados. In an interview with Xbox360ism, Keiji Inafune briefly stated that the game will feature some online elements.

Silent Hill 5

The official announcement of Silent Hill: Homecoming named the protagonist as Alex Shepherd, a war veteran who returns home from an overseas tour of duty to find that his father and younger brother are missing, and his mother has gone into catatonia. Alex begins to search for his brother, leading him to Silent Hill after searching his hometown of Shepherd's Glen, where he will have to traverse real world areas covered in fog, and also the "Otherworld" version of the same maps. EGM magazine confirmed that there will be a female supporting character named Elle, who is an old school friend of Alex. It is unknown whether she will be a playable character at the moment. Other screenshots appear to include Travis Grady of Silent Hill: Origins.

Gran Turismo 5

Gran Turismo 5 (also known as GT5) is the fifth edition of Sony/Polyphony Digital's racing video game series, Gran Turismo. Expanding on the Prologue version, which was first released in Japan in October 2007 and intended to give an impression of the final game, it will be the first of the main numbered series to feature on the PlayStation 3.

As found in the Prologue, and for the first time in the numbered Gran Turismo series, the game is set to feature cars from Ferrari, including the Ferrari F2007 Formula One world championship car. In addition to Prologue features, it will also include the Top Gear Test Track featured in the BBC motoring show, and will greatly expand on the number of cars available, to over 900. As well as Ferraris there will also be other super cars featured such as the Audi R8 and Ford GT (05). There will also be a 16 player online mode as in GT5 Prologue.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

The game's developers wanted each platform to offer players a distinct, "unleashed" experience. The Wii version will use the Wii Remote to simulate the ability to wield a lightsaber, while the Nunchuk attachment will simulate Force power use. The Wii version will also feature an exclusive two-player duel mode and five levels not included in the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions. The PlayStation Portable version will feature an exclusive "historic mode" that allows players to reenact five battles and events from the Star Wars films as well as multiplayer for up to four players. The PlayStation 2 version will allow the player's character to participate in Jedi trials, encountering the spirits of long-dead Jedi. The N-Gage version will use a "CellWeaver" gesture system: each enemy will have a symbol above its head that corresponds to a "gesture," or button combination, that will result in the player's character using a Force power to attack the enemy. The Nintendo DS version will allow players to use the stylus to input a chain of lightsaber effects combined with Force powers.

Little Big Planet

In LittleBigPlanet, players control small characters (nicknamed either "Sackboy" or "Sackgirl", owing to their material and appearance), each of which can jump, move, and grab objects. Players can use their abilities to shape and develop the highly manipulable environment to build custom spaces either individually, collaboratively, and/or competitively. Levels focus on co-operative, physics-based gameplay, and players can use mechanisms such as cogs and blocks to build anything from small level parts to large, complex worlds. The game will also allow opportunities for players to acquire new skills and tools.

A major focus of LittleBigPlanet will be on the global community features through the PlayStation Network for players to interact and share their "patches" - levels and other modifications - as well as online play.

Players can navigate their way through the world by jumping, pushing, grabbing, running and flying to overcome numerous puzzles provided by the game's robust physics engine. The traditional concept of enemies has not been shown but the game will, in fact, have enemies, ranging from the small, to the big and complex. In addition, harmful objects can be placed in the game, such as pits of fire that cause the player to restart that section of the level; players pop and roll out of restart points nearby.

A scoring system is also in place, in the form of a time trial with a start and end gate and players collecting world items such as sponge. Scoring is based on both time and execution of the level.

Fallout 3

Similar to previous Fallout games, Fallout 3 takes place in post-apocalyptic United States. The player character is a member of Vault 101, a fallout shelter serving in Washington D.C.. The player character lives with his father (his mother having died in childbirth), until, one day, the player wakes up finding that his father has left the vault and ventured into the wasteland for unknown reasons. The vault overseer gets suspicious that the player had something to do with the father's disappearance, so the character must go out into the wasteland in search of him.[/url]

DAMN...nice games...especially GTA 4 and Gran Turismo 5...
but...where's starcraft 2 ??....im sure it'll be the best strategy game of the decade...just like warcrafts.....

I just recently bought the PS2 for my daughter, have tried my hands on it playing the Tom & Jerry game. Not too good in that though. hahaha... Laughing

Even after trying the cheat methods (endless life & endless ammunition) that I learnt from a book that I got. Didnt help much.
