If there is a birth of baby. Should we shut down the puja mandap, it is said one should not offer aarthi for 16 days. Is it rite?

There is no such thing like that. Even the mother who gave birth can offer prayers from bed. How can others desist from puja for 16 days?

After conducting homam, we were asked to deposit things after purnahuti. Is this right?

This is not right. Depositing materials should be done before purnahuti.

If a child commits sin before the age of 12, then it is not a sin. Is this right?

A child is dependent on its parents till it attains 16. Only after that, it is considered as a separate human being.

At temples we receive sacred ashes from the priest in right hand, pour it in left hand and then apply using right hand. Is this right?

This is not right. One should receive the ashes in right hand and apply using the three fingers of the right hand only. Never use the left hand.

Navagrahas should not be worshipped at home, is it true?

When they are much inside your body, will they not be there at your homes?. All these restrictions not right. The navagrahas, five elements and God reside in you.

In thiruchendur temple the viboothi is offered in a leaf why?

In thiruchendur viboothi is offered on a pannier leaf. This leaf is a relief for many diseases. Viswamitra Maharishi killed Thadagai, a female demon through Lord Rama. Therefore he suffered from ulcer because he was responsible for the death of a female.

Sri Rama appeared in his dream and asked him to go over to thiruchendur , pray to God and apply a sweel consume the viboothi in the panier leaf provided in the temple. He did the same and his ulcer was cure.

Abhinava Gupta was jealous of Adhi Sankara and used his tantric powers sent bad spirits and caused the worst desease "baga sundaram". Adhi Sankara realized that he had this desease because of his past karma and worshipped the Lord everyday.

The Lord appeared in his dream and asked him to go to thiruchendur and worship. Adhi Sankara also did the same. He sang in praise of Lord Subramanya in sanskrit 33 slokas. These slokas are known as "subramanya pujagam" Adhi sankara was cured. Of the 33 songs, the 25th is very important. Patients can recite this sloka:-

apasmara kushta shiyarsa prameha
jeevaronma kulmathi, roha, maharnathi
pisassa, sarve bhavath pathra buthim
vilokiya shanatharakare dhanvante

pathra buthim means viboothi in pannier leaf. This is the remedy for mental affliction, leprosy, cough, fever, stomach ache and disturbance by evil spirits and they are all cured. This is the meaning of the sloka.
