Climbing Snail

A snail is at the bottom of a 20 meters deep pit. Every day the snail climbs 5 meters upwards, but at night it slides 4 meters back downwards.
The Question: How many days does it take before the snail reaches the top of the pit?

15 days, as it may not slide down after reaching the top.

Because on the 15th day, it would jump 5 steps to reach the top and will not slide down

On the 15th day it only reaches 19 meters and slides down to 15 meters at nite. The correct answer is 16 days. On the 16th it reaches the top. Wink

p/s: You can use excel spreadsheet to test it out. Its easier to see graphically.
