I realised how popular the PS2 still is and how some forumers have just bought it. I think it would be apt to have a game recomendation thread on what people think are 'their' best PS2 games. Here are mine:

Okami

In Okami, the player takes the role of the mythical sun goddess Amaterasu, in the form of a wolf. Her task is to restore color (or 'life') to the world by destroying the monsters who have stolen it. Since Amaterasu is a diety, there are naturally people who worship her and people who don't. The more people who worship her (as a result of her restoring color and doing other good deeds for them), the more powerful she becomes.

My take : This is probably in my mind one of the best games ever made for any system! Its a work of art, the graphic style and the story. You will get attached to the characters in the game as they are have a lot of character and depth. Its a mix if adventure + platforming + action and you are given what is known as the celestial brush where you an paint things into the game(you must play the game to understand).

Shadow Of The Collosus

Shadow of the Colossus is an action game that squares a young boy against a group of towering colossi. You assume the role of a nameless hero trying to rid the world of giant creatures and find his lost love. Armed with only a magical sword and bow, you must identify the weaknesses of the giants and figure out how to exploit them.

My Take : Another game i would consider a piece of art. Probably the best looking game on the PS2. You aim to to kill a bunch of collosus(giant beast) scattered around this mysterious land. Now the collosus are HUGE...you will not see any enemy in any game this huge! Instead of spoiling many thing this game is best discovered as you play along with it and has some really deep meaning in it(if you can see it).

Metal Gear Solid 3 : Subsistence

Metal Gear goes online for the first time in Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence! Players can battle or team up with up to 7 other friends for online dominance. Featuring different gameplay modes, new camera system, and robust online play, Subsistence is the game that gives players a brand new Metal Gear experience. Includes MGS3 Snake Eater and all new Online Modes, including Death Match, Team Death Match, Sneaking Mission, Capture Mission, and Rescue Mission. Third Person Camera system gives players more control. Bonus Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake games which have never been released before in the North America. Demo Theater, Duel Mode, and new stages for Snake vs. Monkey mini-game.

My Take : If you can find subsistence, get it instead of snake eater. The new camera angle improves the game a lot. MGS3 tell an interesting storyline with good characters(and evil ones) and has many plot twists. Very nice looking game too as it is played mostly in the jungle(nice lightintg and vegetation). Oh and also be prepared for the longest most grueling boss battle ever(against a character called 'The End').

Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 / PES6

Winning Eleven: Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 expands upon the series' realism with faster gameplay, more responsive control and improved artificial intelligence. Players will now make intelligent runs without the ball, identifying opportunities and pointing to where they would like the ball to be delivered. Similarly, the game is now more physical, with defenders jockeying for position and strikers working to turn their opponent as they receive the ball.

My take : Best football game ever made! Who doesn't like football?Nuff said.

Gran Turismo 4

With authentic cars, courses, and car physics, Gran Turismo 4 adds an even more realistic racing simulation to the series. The characteristics of each car take into account weight, speed, friction, and more to deliver realistic handling. Test-drive new vehicles in courses located in various sites, such as Nurburgring Nordschleife, New York City, the Grand Canyon, and Tsukuba Circuit. Along with Career mode, Gran Turismo 4 highlights the new GT Photo mode and GT Online mode, which lets players around the world compete over the Internet.

My Take : Best car racing game ever. More cars more tracks from the previous GT and cleaner graphics. Closest you can get to realistic cars virtually.

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner

Inspired by the anime TV series, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner gives you control over a lightning-fast mechanized robot. The sequel to Zone of the Enders features new weapons, maneuvers, and tactics to fight an evil militaristic force. You'll travel to expansive cityscapes, enemy fortresses, and even to the depths of space. Now that you have the power to target and destroy hundreds of enemies at the same time, quieting conflict should not be a problem.

My Take : Its a bit hard to find this game, but if you do...get it. It looks great and if you like big robots fighting each other....you got that. Good story with anime style cutscene. I enjoyed this game a lot.

There is a lot more games on the PS2. So if you have a personal favourite, shout it out.

We love Katamari

The unique and bizarre gameplay of Katamari Damacy returns in the sequel, We Love Katamari. Your goal is to roll up large balls of anything and everything that that you can find so that you may replace the stars in the universe that were accidentally destroyed. We Love Katamari now includes both cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.

My Take : A unique puzzle game with very nice art style. Its really funny too. The game is great for children and adults alike. Roll the whole world into a giant ball and release it into the cosmos. I know you wont get it till you just play the game(Japanese a really crazy and they always have crazy ideas like this).

Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 marks a new chapter in the Resident Evil series. You'll rejoin Leon S. Kennedy six years after his first mission as a rookie cop from Resident Evil 2. Now a US agent, Leon is on a top secret mission to investigate the disappearance of the president's daughter. As Leon, you must make your way to a mysterious location in Europe, where new enemies await. Take them down by using enhanced aim-and-shoot features and a new action button.

My Take : Zombie shooting is always fun plus with an interesting storyline and very frightening monsters. Obviously not for children.

I was recommended by the seller that the PS3 costs around 1k. which is twice the price of the PS2 and also that the games will cost about rm 300 each as PS3 could only be used with original software it seems. The PS2 can use the normal RM 3 games CD to play. Well, since all of us are learners, I thought its best to get the PS2. Thats how I got that. Very Happy

Ever since I bought PS2, there have been no argument on which channel to watch on Astro. My wife can watch any channel she wants and I only need my PS2.
Anyway, my vote is for Winning Eleven.
