if the child is smart and knows how to utilize the phone well, it is very useful to tract them when they go out. |

you got the point kon, but those days were very safe for us. I would wonder around my area the whole day and come back home in the evening, our parents are assured that we must be somewhere doing something.
Can we stay assured like that now when your son or daughter go out even for an hour?
I watch like a hawk when my babies( 8 and 9) go out to play.
I need to stand like a guard when i take them out to shopping mall.
I need to keep an eye on them even in the temple.
The world is changing and hp is becoming a crucial gadget, not a luxury items anymore.
My kids are too small for hp but i have one spare to give them if i take them to a crowded place so that they can call me in case they lose us. |

hi mirugam,
u got a point there....but u got my points wrong...i am not talking about having phone spare then giving out to the children in time of need...but what i observe now, kids possesing high tech camera phones and demanding to parents they want much more expensive phone so that they can compete with their friend.....
tell me one thing bro/sis, kids rather than making a call and sms what could they do more??
then basic simple phone should be enough...y should they have expensive phones at the expense or their parents pocket...
and one more thing....if the child goes to school he/she must remains at schoool until the parents come and pick him/her up....teh necesity of HP rises when children goes out of the school compound....i dont see any neccesity for the children bringng HP to school. unless parents give spare to their children when the children attending a tuition or extra class.
anyway, mirugam good idea of having spare phone where giving it to children during the needy time not presenting the phone so that they can own one
my humble opinion |

Personally I dont think giving handphones (within one's means) to school going kids is all that bad. Times have changed and having a hp is no longer a luxury and has become a necessity. Just imagine this scenario.
Someone kidnaps your 14 year old son after school and brings him somewhere in a car trunk.
Old days outcome = your son had it or you had it as he has no means of communication to the outside world.
Present day outcome = your son could reach you or the police by sms or call and be rescued, IF he had a handphone.
So since times have changed it is to our own peril if we dont keep up according to times. A handphone is a communication tool and has a vital role to play in todays advanced and crime filled society. You never know what or who is lurking behind the corner. So far from being a luxury, a hp is very much a necessity. As we have seen in the above scenario, the handphone as a tool, made a difference between life and death. It is so cheap nowadays that giving one for your child's safety is not too much when compared with the advantages you gain. _________________ Before you criticize someone, make sure you walk a mile in their shoes. Hmmmm...
Thats right...
why dont someone just invent a gadget tht Vin Diesel used in The Pacifier..
hehehe....so we can substitute it for HP's...
if im not mistaken..tht device tracks our childrens usin GPS...cool huh ??...
but still...I cant find any reason to buy childrens expensive and sophisticated HP's.... _________________

Expensive and cheap are rather highly relative terms.... what is expensive for one can be cheap for another depending on an individual's financial clout. So I have nothing against parents who have the ability to give their children the best. As a parent myself I can understand where they are coming from. What is the pricetag for a child's life / safety compared to the most expensive phone around? Can you put a pricetag on a child's life?
If a gadget is feature packed like having the GPS system to locate and track a childs whereabouts then of course the price is higher than your normal Nokia 3310. So the price is according the value added services. My opinion is, it is perfectly alright for parents to give their children handphones according to their budget. Whether cheap or expensive is besides the point.
Dont get me wrong, I am not saying that EVERY parent should give their children a handphone. That is an individual decision. My point is, if you asked me if it is wrong for parents to give their children handphones, I say its not. Its a passive approval. _________________ Before you criticize someone, make sure you walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize, you're a mile away and you HAVE THEIR SHOES. |
